How’s it going?!

Hey breadheads: Sorry it has been so long since our last newsletter, but we’ve been working on some really cool stuff so have no fear! We are still big, bad, and ready to throw down. First, lets get you some info on some tasty shows we have coming up.

We’ll be getting real friendly with Providence over the next couple months with some killer shows lined up. On May 3rd we will be making our triumphant return to the Fete lounge to play the classiest show we’ve had yet. They were amazing to us for our album release, and this time we are getting “classy” to show them some love. This show is a suit & tie affair, where we are asking all of you to dress up to the nines, break out the shoe shine, throw on your best, and together we are going to make this town look good. And to kick it up a notch, we are going at it unplugged style: that means uprights, fender rhodes’, and those oh so silky smooth soulful vocals you know and love. We have new arrangements you haven’t heard, and some tasty covers we know you’ll enjoy. Also with us will be an excellent DJ from Providence, Goldmine. He always spins good stuff, so plan on getting down big time. The music starts at 9pm, and the cover is a mere $5! What’s better than suiting up and vibing to great music? You’re right, I can’t think of anything either.

ahueofshaw:

A tune from my band Milkbread, as performed acoustically at my 2011 Composition Recital. I wrote the underlying music, and Dylan LaGamma wrote the lyrics. I was aiming for a “Roots-esque” laid back hip-hop style with a static bass line and chords that allow the song to crescendo and decrescendo at will. The lyrics detail the day of an average man, trying to navigate his way through life, love, loss, and everything else that gets thrown at him. The lyrics end and a tenor sax solo played by yours truly begins, and builds with the interaction between myself and the keyboard player Brendan Moore. We crescendo to a full band “wall of sound”, and soon decrescendo into a quiet, somber duet between tenor and keys. While the song only uses three chords, it allows for the lyrics to remain prominent, and gives the interactions between the players to come to the forefront. It was one of those tunes that as I sat at the piano seemed to unconsciously flow from my hands, and form itself from some unknown place. Its one that I could play for hours and never personally get bored of.
